Dutchess County Jury Information

The NYS Unified Court System would like to assure you that your health and safety remain a top priority for us as we resume essential court operations, including jury service.

 

What to Expect When You Appear:

​

  • Regular deep cleaning of court facilities with enhances cleaning of commonly used areas

  • Limited people in the Commissioner of Jurors and Courthouse

  • Mandatory use of face masks by court personnel and court visitors. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MASK/FACE COVERING

  • Plexiglass barriers may be present at various locations

  • Indicators, like blue tape, may be present in public areas to ensure physical distance of at least 6 feet (to meet social distancing standards)

  • Hand sanitizer for all court visitors

Please note the following:

  • Commissioner of Jurors will continue to provide jurors with public wi-fi.

  • Bring your own pen/pencil and take it with you when you leave.

  • Bring your own books/magazines/electronic devices and chargers.

  • jurors may bring their own resealable beverage and snack or food that does not require refrigeration.

If you are currently experiencing flu like symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, were recently directed to quarantine or have been the caretaker for/have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, please

DO NOT appear at the Commissioner of Jurors. Please contact the Commissioner of Jurors to discuss rescheduling your service if the above conditions apply to you.

Please do not appear to ask for a postponement or excusal.  Even if your summons says "Previously Postponed" or "Previously Absent Must Serve," only jurors who are ready, willing and able to serve are to appear. If you need a postponement or excusal, please email dutchessjury@nycourts.gov and we will respond as quickly as possible. 

This is the Grand Jury message for Grand Jurors summoned for the term commencing on Monday, January 4, 2021. 

 

Grand Jurors are not required to report on Monday, January 4, 2021. PLEASE  DO NOT APPEAR. You are required to remain on standby.

General Information

Absence of Emergency: If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call at 845-431-1780 after 9:00 am on the day you are to report.

​

Accessibility: If you have a disability and need accommodation, call 845-431-1780 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

​

Court Hours: Dutchess County Courts are open from 9:00 am thru 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, except State holidays.

​

Electronics: Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  Wireless internet access is available in the Central Jury Room.  This access is public (non-secure), and you must have appropriate security protection

​

Meals: There is a mid-day lunch break everyday.  There are numerous eateries in the vicinity, or you may bring your lunch to the Central Jury Room.  Food and drink are not allowed in courtrooms.

​

Parking/Transportation: The court does not pay for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  The following City of Poughkeepsie lots are available:  Financial Plaza Deck (across from Civic Center); Duro Lot (Main St. & Columbus Dr.); Liberty Street Lot (Liberty St.) and Academy Street (Academy and Cannon Streets).  Parking may also be available in the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel.  Please put enough time on the meter to enable you to stay until at least 12:45 p.m. Jury Selection and Jury Duty may continue through the afternoon, but you will have a lunch break at 12:30 p.m., during which you will be able to move your car or add more time to your meter if necessary.  For further information regarding parking in the City of Poughkeepsie, please contact the Parking Department between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at 451-4120.

Security: Court Officers are stationed throughout the court.  Members of the public must pass through a magnetometer to enter.  Please arrive early and allow extra time for this process.
