Notice from the Commissioner of Jurors regarding                               Coronavirus and Flu

In light of public health concerns arising over the coronavirus, please note the following:

If you have been summoned for jury duty, beginning on

March 16th and continuing until further notice:

  • Please do not appear at the courthouse.  Your service has been suspended at this time.  You will hear from us in the future with another date for service.

 

If you are a juror currently serving on a grand jury:

  • You are required to appear to continue your service AS NEEDED. Grand Jury appearances will be kept to a minimum at the direction of the District Attorney.  You will continue to call 518-388-4364 x 4152 for GRAND JURY reporting instructions.

 

THIS OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED AS OF 5PM ON MONDAY, MARCH 16, 2020 AND WILL REOPEN AT THE DIRECTION OF THE UNIFIED COURT SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION.

General Information

Absence or Emergency: If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call at 518-285-8516 as soon as possible.

Accessibility: If you have a disability or need an accommodation, call 518-285-8516 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

Court Hours: Court normally operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 4:30 pm.

Electronics: Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  This includes electronic readers, they are NOT allowed to be used in the Courtroom.  There is public access WIFI available throughout the building.

Meals: There is a mid-day lunch break everyday (food is not provided).  Dining and shopping facilities are located within close proximity of the  courthouse in downtown Schenectady.

Parking/Transportation: The court does not pay for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  Reduced fee ($3 all day) is available at the public parking garage at 220 Broadway (behind Proctor's) - you must bring your parking stub with you to be validated by the Commissioner of Jurors.  Accessible parking is available on State Street in front of the County Building. We do NOT recommend metered parking.  We can not guarantee you will be able to feed your meter throughout the day.

Security: Court Officers are stationed throughout the court.  Members of the public must pass through a magnetometer to enter.  Please arrive early and allow extra time for this process.

Verification of Attendance: If an employer requires proof of service verification of attendance is available from the Commissioner of Jurors office.  If your employer requires a time of arrival and/or departure you must ask the Commissioner at the time of attendance.
