Albany County Jury Information

Trial jurors should report to court ONLY when instructed.  Please review the reporting instructions below, or to hear a recorded message, please call 518-285-8900. These instructions are updated daily after 5:00 PM 

 

Notice from the Commissioner of Jurors

TRIAL JUROR:  All trial activity is suspended at this time. If you are scheduled to serve as a TRIAL JUROR for a future date, you will receive a summons approximately two weeks prior to your scheduled date. If trial activity continues to be suspended, our office will notify you by mail to arrange for an alternate date to serve our Courts.

 

GRAND JUROR: If you are a serving grand juror, you are required to continue your service. 

If you are scheduled to serve as a GRAND JUROR for a future date, you will receive a summons approximately two weeks prior to your scheduled date. 

 

Important Message from the Commissioner of Jurors

The NYS Unified Court System would like to assure you that your health and safety remain a top priority for us as we resume essential court operations, including jury service.

 

If you received a summons to serve in our Courts, please refer to Section C of your summons mailer for your reporting instructions. Please be assured our utmost concern is the safety and well-being of our jurors. In doing so, we have implemented the following procedures in line with the N.Y.S. Dept of Health and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for your safety:

  • Frequent daily cleaning and disinfecting of the Albany County Judicial Center and Albany County Courthouse

  • Security will take the temperature of every person entering the Judicial Center and Courthouse.  

  • Limited public foot traffic in our facilities

  • Masks must always be worn by everyone.

  • Latex gloves will be available for use

  • Social distancing guidelines will be enforced

  • Hand sanitizing dispensers are available throughout building

  • Smaller-sized jury panels with staggered arrival times

PUBLIC NOTICE

If you are currently experiencing flu like symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, were recently directed to quarantine or have been a caretaker for or have had close contact with a person diagnose with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, please DO NOT appear for service. Please contact us at (518) 285-8900 to discuss rescheduling your service, if any of the above conditions apply to you.

We never call and ask you for personal information.  NEVER give out personal information over the telephone.

 

General Information

Absence or Emergency: If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call our office at 518-285-8900 after 8:30am on the day you are to report.

Accessibility: If you have a disability and need accommodation, please call 518-285-8900 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

 

Court Hours: Court normally operates from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 5:00pm

Electronics: Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial activity.  There is public WI-FI access available in the Albany County Judicial Center, 1st Floor - Jury Assembly Room and the Albany County Courthouse, 3rd Floor - Jury Assembly Room.

 

Meals: There is a mid-day lunch break every day.

Parking/Transportation: The court does not pay or reimburse transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  Discounted parking is offered at the Hilton Hotel garage (corner of Lodge Street and Pine Street, Albany). Please see Commissioner of Jurors' staff at your reporting location for more information.

 

Verification of Attendance: If an employer requires proof of service, verification of attendance is available in the Commissioner of Jurors office.
