Allegany County Jury Information

If you are currently experiencing flu like symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, were recently directed to quarantine or have been the caretaker for/have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, please DO NOT appear at the courthouse.  Please contact your Commissioner of Jurors to discuss rescheduling your service if the above conditions apply to you. 

Jurors should report to court ONLY when instructed.  Please review the reporting instructions below, or to hear a recorded message, please call 1-585-449-3460.  These instructions are updated daily at 5:00 PM.

The NYS Unified Court System would like to assure you that your health and safety remain a top priority for us as we resume essential court operations, including jury service.

What to Expect When You Appear:

  • Regular deep cleaning of court facilities with enhanced cleaning of commonly used areas

  • Limited people in courthouse

  • Mandatory use of face masks by court personnel and court visitors

    • Please bring your own mask/face covering

  • Plexiglass barriers may be present at various locations (i.e. magnetometers, x-ray machines, assembly room desks)

  • Indicators, like blue tape, may be present in public areas to ensure physical distance of at least 6 feet (to meet social distancing standards)

  • Hand sanitizer for all court visitors

Please note the following:  

  • Commissioner of Jurors will continue to provide jurors with public wi-fi.

  • Bring your own pen/pencil and take it with you when you leave.

  • Bring your own books/magazines/electronic devices and charges.

  • Jurors may bring their own resealable beverage and snack or food that does not require refrigeration.

Grand Jurors September/October are still serving and should continue to check this website for instructions each week until further notice.  

Currently, No jurors should report to the courthouse, however you will be expected to report on January 6th.  Check this site again on Jan. 5th in case of changes or cancellations.

GRAND JURORS summoned to begin November 18, 2020:

Your service will not be needed and is now complete.  You do not need to continue to call in or check this website.  You will be ineligible for jury service in Allegany County for ten years.  Thank you for your patience.

You must be able to wear a face mask covering your nose and mouth at all times while inside the court building.  If you are unable to do so, please call the Jury office BEFORE coming to court.  

If you are sick please call the Jury Commissioner as soon as possible.  

PLEASE DO NOT report to the courthouse for the purpose of requesting an excuse or postponement.  ALL excuse or postponement requests must be made by telephone or email PRIOR to reporting.  You may postpone your service online at www.nyjuror.gov.  You may also update your information and provide email or cell number so that I may communicate important information to you more quickly.

Do not bring any weapons including pocket knives.  Cell phone use is prohibited during jury proceedings. Court is RARELY canceled due to weather, however any emergency closing will be noted on this site as well as voicemail and local radio stations. Please read the information below for parking, etc.  I anticipate that you will serve for only a half day.

We never call and ask you for personal information.  NEVER give out personal information over the telephone.

General Information

Absence or Emergency: If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call at 585-449-3461 as soon as possible and leave a message explaining what the situation is.

​

Accessibility: If you have a disability and need accommodation, call 585-449-3461 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

​

Court Hours: Court normally operates from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 4:30 pm.

​

Electronics: Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  There is public access WIFI in the County courthouse.

​

Meals: There is a mid-day lunch break everyday.  There is no dining facility in the building however, local restaurants are within walking distance.  

​

Parking/Transportation: The court does not pay for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  Additional FREE parking is available for jurors at the corner of South St and Tracy Ave across from the OLD Belmont School.  It is a three block walk to the courthouse.  Handicap parking is available in the main lot in front of the building. 

​

Security: Court Officers are stationed throughout the court.  Members of the public must pass through a magnetometer to enter.  Please arrive early and allow extra time for this process.

​

Jury Pay:  Please check with your employer as soon as you receive your summons. The information form on your summons determines whether or not you are eligible to receive the jury pay from NYS.  Please click on the handbook links at the bottom of this page for more information.
