Broome County Jury Information

Jurors should report to court ONLY when instructed.  Please review the reporting instructions below, or to hear a recorded phone message, please call 607-240-5900 and press the corresponding prompt (1 - Central Jury Room, 2 - Grand Jury, 3- City Court).  If there are any questions, please call the office during regular business hours at 607-240-5900 or you can email us at brmjuryoffice@nycourts.gov.

Notice from the Commissioner of Jurors re: Coronavirus and Flu

In light of public health concerns arising over the coronavirus, please note the following.

(1)  If you have been summoned for jury duty for a trial, beginning on March 23rd and continuing until further notice:

      Please do not appear at the courthouse for jury duty service.  Your service has been suspended at this time.  You will hear from us

      in the future with another date for service.

(2)  If you have been summoned for Grand Jury with the reporting date of March 24, 2020:

      Please do not appear at the courthouse for jury duty service. You will be receiving good service credit as if you had served and

      your name will not be eligible to be called again for at least 6 years.  Anyone postponed to a date after March 24th will hear from us

      in the future with another date for service.

CENTRAL JURY ROOM:

GRAND JURY:  

All grand jury terms have been suspended as of March 24th until further notice.  Grand

Jurors who were summoned to appear on March 24th received 6 years service credit.

Grand Jurors who postponed to a date after that will hear from us in the future with another date for service.

We never call and ask you for personal information.  NEVER give out personal information over the telephone.

General Information

Absence or Emergency:  If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call the office at 607-240-5900 after 10:30 am on the day you are to report.

Accessibility:  If you have a disability and need accommodation, call 607-240-5900 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

Court Hours:  Court normally operates from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 4:30 p.m.  You cannot enter the building before 8:30 a.m.

Electronics:  Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  There is public access Wi-Fi in the County courthouse.  

Meals:  There is a one hour mid-day lunch break every day, usually between 12:00-1:00 p.m.  There are many restaurants within walking distance of the courthouse.

Parking/Transportation:  The court does not pay for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  Reporting jurors are encouraged to park in metered parking. At the kiosk, we encourage jurors to pay through noon and if necessary, they can add more during the break.  

Security:  Court Officers are stationed throughout the court.  Members of the public must pass through a magnetometer to enter.  Please arrive early and allow extra time for this process.  DO NOT bring any of the following items with you:  knives, razors, box cutters, tools, defense spray, scissors, knitting needles, metal or glass bottles/mugs, cameras, metal nail files or steel toe shoes.
