Notice from the Commissioner of Jurors re: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

In light of public health concerns arising over the coronavirus, please note the following:

 

If you have been summoned for Grand Jury with the reporting date of November 30, 2020:

Please do not appear at the courthouse until you are instructed to do so. Please continue to call or check the website every Wednesday after 5:00 p.m. for reporting instructions for that following Monday until you are told that your service is complete. See the "GRAND JURY" section under Reporting Instructions below.

GRAND JURY:

All Broome County Grand Jurors with the initial reporting date of Monday, November 30th, 2020:

You DO NOT HAVE TO REPORT to the courthouse and are still on standby telephone service. Please continue to check every Wednesday after 5:00 p.m. for reporting instructions for that following Monday until you are told that your service is complete. Please call or check our website after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 for updated reporting instructions.

General Information

​

Absence or Emergency:  If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting on your date, please call the office at 607-240-5900 and leave a voice mail message or call after 10:30 am as we will be in court processing the jurors that are reporting.

Accessibility:  If you have a disability and need accommodation, call 607-240-5900 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

Court Hours:  Court normally operates from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 4:30 p.m.  You cannot enter the building before 8:30 a.m.

Electronics:  Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  There is public access Wi-Fi in the County courthouse.  

Meals:  There is a one hour mid-day lunch break every day, usually between 12:00-1:00 p.m.  There are many restaurants within walking distance of the courthouse.

Parking/Transportation:  The court does not pay for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  Reporting jurors are encouraged to park in metered parking. At the kiosk, we encourage jurors to pay through noon and if necessary, they can add more during the break.  

Security:  Court Officers are stationed throughout the court.  Members of the public must pass through a magnetometer to enter.  Please arrive early and allow extra time for this process.  DO NOT bring any of the following items with you:  knives, razors, box cutters, tools, defense spray, scissors, knitting needles, metal or glass bottles/mugs, cameras, metal nail files or steel toe shoes.
