Notice from the Commissioner of Jurors re: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

In light of public health concerns arising over the coronavirus, please note the following:

​

GRAND JUROR:

If you are a juror currently serving on a grand jury:

 

        -You are required to continue your service.

 

 

TRIAL JUROR:

Please do not appear at the courthouse.  Your service has been suspended at this time.  You will hear from us in the future with another date for service.

The NYS Unified Court System would like to assure you that your health and safety remain a top priority for us as we resume essential court operations, including jury service.

 

 What to Expect When You Appear:

  • Frequent daily cleaning and disinfecting of the Rensselaer County Courthouse (includes public restrooms)

  • Limited people in courthouse

  • Smaller-sized jury panels called to report

  • Staggered arrival times for panels called to report, keeping the number of jurors at a minimum.

  • Mandatory use of face masks by court personnel and court visitors

    • Please bring your own mask/face covering

  • Plexiglass barriers may be present at various locations

  • Indicators, are present in public areas to ensure physical distance of at least 6 feet (to meet social distancing standards)

  • Hand sanitizing dispensers available throughout building

  • Temperatures will be checked upon arrival 

 

Please note the following: 

  • Commissioner of Jurors will continue to provide jurors with public wi-fi.

  • Bring your own pen/pencil and take it with you when you leave.

  • Bring your own books/magazines/electronic devices and chargers.

  • Jurors may bring their own resealable beverage and snack or food that does not require refrigeration.

 

If you are currently experiencing flu like symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, were recently directed to quarantine or have been the caretaker for/have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, please DO NOT appear at the courthouse.  Please contact your Commissioner of Jurors to discuss rescheduling your service if the above conditions apply to you.

General Information

Absence of Emergency: If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call at 518-285-6123 after 8:30 am on the day you are to report.

​

Accessibility: If you have a disability and need accommodation, call 518-285-6123 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

​

Court Hours: Court normally operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm., with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 5:00 pm. 

- The entrance to the Rensselaer County Courthouse is located on Second Street and the doors open to the public at 8:30 AM

- The entrance to the Rensselaer City Court is located on Washington Street and the doors open to the public at 8:00 AM

- The entrance to the Troy City Court is located on State Street and the doors open to the public at 8:30 AM

Electronics: Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  There is public access WIFI in the Rensselaer County Courthouse, Jury Assembly Room.

​

Meals: There is a mid-day lunch break everyday.  Dining and shopping facilities are located within close proximity of the Courts in both the City of Troy and the City of Rensselaer.

​

Parking/Transportation: The court does not reimburse for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  There are no designated parking lots available for juror parking in downtown Troy.  On-street parking within the City of Troy's business district is either metered or has 2 hour restrictions.  It is recommended to park south of Ferry Street; pay attention to sign restrictions.  Jurors are encouraged to park at this location or if available, CDTA bus transportation.  For further CDTA information, please contact CDTA at 518-482-8822 or visit www.cdta.org

Please note: Any parking violations you receive from the City of Troy should be addressed at Troy City Hall, Treasurer's Office, 433 River Street, Suite 5001, Troy NY.  This information is available on the face of the ticket or by visiting their website www.troyny.gov.

On-street parking is available within close proximity of the Court in the City of Rensselaer.

​

Security: NYS Court Officers are present at the entrance and throughout the Court facilities.  You are required to pass through a magnetometer.  Please allow sufficient time for this process.  Weapons and other dangerous instruments are prohibited in court facilities.  Your cooperation is appreciated in this effort to keep out facilities safe.

​

Verification of Attendance: If an employer requires proof of service, verification of attendance is available in the Commissioner of Jurors office (Mezzanine Level).
