Washington County Jury Information

​

 

The NYS Unified Court System would like to assure you that your health and safety remain a top priority for us as we resume essential court operations, including jury service.

 

What to Expect When You Appear:

​

  • All visitors -- including jurors, parties, attorneys, witnesses, spectators, law enforcement officers, prisoners, vendors and all other visitors -- will be required to submit to temperature screening and questioning upon entering the courthouse. 
     

  • Jury impanelment will occur in large courtrooms to ensure appropriate physical distancing is maintained throughout the impanelment process.
     

  • Reporting times for jurors will be staggered to ensure that proper physical distancing is maintained throughout the impanelment process and the service term.
     

  • Regular cleaning of court facilities will continue with enhanced cleaning of commonly used areas, including those occupied by jurors.
     

  • Mandatory use of face masks by court personnel and court visitors
     

  • Grand Jury witnesses will be provided with face shields to ensure proper protection during presentations, but still permitting Grand Jurors to view facial expressions.
     

  • Please bring your own mask/face covering
     

  • Plexiglass barriers may be present at various locations (i.e. magnetometers, x-ray machines, assembly room desks)
     

  • Indicators, like blue tape, may be present in public areas to ensure physical distance of at least 6 feet to meet social distancing standards.  Health and safety notices will be posted at elevators and outside restrooms.
     

  • Wall mounted hand sanitizing stations have been installed at various locations throughout court buildings and will continue to be supplied with hand sanitizer.

     

Please note the following:

  • Commissioner of Jurors will continue to provide jurors with public wi-fi.
     

  • Bring your own pen/pencil and take it with you when you leave.
     

  • Bring your own books/magazines/electronic devices and chargers.
     

  • Jurors may bring their own bottled water/soda and lunch food that does not require refrigeration.

Accommodations are available for those jurors who have medical needs.  Such inquiries should be directed to the Jury Commissioner.

​

The following persons are not permitted entry into a court facility:

                             

-  Those who are currently experiencing flu-like symptoms; or

                             

-  Those who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 30 days; or

​

-  Those who have been directed to quarantine or self-monitor for COVID-19 by a medical authority or          employer

​

-  Those who are a caregiver for or have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 during the past 30 days.

​

​

Any juror who falls into any one of these categories should call or email the Jury Commissioner to discuss rescheduling jury service.

The Commissioner of Jurors would like to thank all Jurors for your time, cooperation and contribution to our system of justice.

We never call and ask you for personal information.  NEVER give out personal information over the telephone.

General Information

​

 

All Summoned Jurors: Please call (518)746-2125 extention #1, after 5:00 pm on the day prior to your summons date.  There will be a recorded message instructing you on if you need to report, continue to stand by, or if your service has ended without the need to appear.

 

Absence of Emergency: If illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call at 518-746-2125 after 8:30 am on the day you are to report.

​

Accessibility: If you have a disability and need accommodation, call 518-746-2125 or 1-800-662-1220 for relay call.

​

Court Hours: Court normally operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm., with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.  Court sessions rarely continue beyond 5:00 pm.  You cannot enter the building before 8:45 am.

​

Electronics: Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the jury assembly rooms and other waiting areas.  They must be turned off during jury selection and trial.  There is public access WIFI in the County courthouse.  There are also computer work stations in the assembly room.

​

Meals: There is a mid-day lunch break everyday.

​

Parking/Transportation: The court does not pay for transportation fares, parking fees or parking violations.  There is no fee for parking.  All jurors should park in the parking lot directly north of the courthouse.

​

Security: Court Officers are stationed throughout the court.  Members of the public must pass through a magnetometer to enter.  Please arrive early and allow extra time for this process.
